The excitement levels surrounding the 2023 NBA Draft -- anchored primarily by No. 1-with-a-bullet prospect Victor Wembanyama -- has leveled off in recent months as the college crop of talents underwhelm and one-and-done prospects fail to meet expectations. There's a clear No. 1 and No. 2 in the class with Wembanyama and G League Ignite star Scoot Henderson holding it down atop the class, but beyond that things are a bit of a mixed bag. Maybe No. 3 in the class is Alabama rising freshman Brandon Miller. Villanova wing Cam Whitmore has the tools to grow and develop into consideration. Overtime Elite has several contenders who could get there. Right now it's a mystery. Our latest mock draft has Amen Thompson of Overtime Elite at the No. 3 spot but at this point it feels like a placeholder. Thompson and his twin, Ausar, are clear top-10 prospects, but whether or not they warrant consideration this high in the draft is dependent upon how the college prospects develop in coming months. Much is to be answered on that front with No. 1 recruit Nick Smith Jr. dealing with injury at Arkansas, Villanova wing Cam Whitmore still easing into a bigger role coming off injury and the Duke duo of Dariq Whitehead and Dereck Lively looking far from locks to be one-and-done lottery picks.
